Harmony is a comprehensive Digital Asset Management solution designed specifically to capture, store, organize, index and protect large collections of various types of digital media in both enterprise and tactical environments. With the consistent expansion and constant breakthroughs in digital technologies, organizations are quickly amassing extremely large collections of digital media that can become either unmanageable or extremely labor intensive to keep up with. Harmony’s design takes into account the problems associated with storing large amounts of media and employs industry proven hardware and software components to overcome these obstacles and create a comprehensive system capable of storing and managing media over its entire life cycle.
CAPABILITIES
Our Harmony solution was designed from the ground up to address asset sustainability and provide a searchable, protected environment for digital media to exist during its lifecycle. It’s hardware is completely redundant so that no single point of failure exists and its software is designed to make ingesting, converting, indexing, securing and replicating media as automated and simple as possible. The true power of Harmony is in its flexibility to incorporate optional components to suit an organizations business requirements, however, the below in an overview of Harmony’s standard capabilities presented in the order of a typical assets life cycle.
Live Video Capture and Encode
A hardware video Transcoder card is incorporated in to the systems design allowing it to capture and encode two standard or high definition live video and audio streams simultaneously per card.
Ingestion
Media can be ingested into the system in many different ways including, but not limited to, capturing live video, connecting a digital camera or device directly to media ingestion interface, over the network, shared folders, FTP or off of existing media such as a CD or DVD.
Media Conversion
Pictures and videos can be converted from various formats at the point of ingestion to an agreed upon image of video standard to facilitate uniformity and standardization within your media collection.
Asset Cataloging and Organization
The Harmony system utilizes software to constantly poll a designated “Watch Folder” for new media. When a new asset is found, the metadata embedded with in the asset will be inserted in to a database and indexed. Because only the metadata is inserted in to the database and not the media itself, the database remains small and searches remain quick and efficient. Assets are organized both by physical location and logical relevance.
Keywording
Keywords derived from the organizational folder structure of where the asset was found will be assigned to that particular asset to facilitate future searches for that asset. For example, if a new asset was found in the following folder: C:\Watch.Root\Photos\Army\2010\Iraq\Tikrit\030310, the asset would be tagged with the keywords Watch.Root, Army, 2010, Iraq, Tikrit and 030310 automatically.
Web Publishing and Media Distribution
Harmony contains a software component which interacts with its database to publish either all of your assets or a designated subset of your assets to a customizable website which can then be available internal to your organization or externally for the general public. It can also send assets via email or master a CD/DVD from within the media management software.
Client \ Server Relationship
Although Harmony can be completely managed from the server, many times users would prefer to work from their workstations or desks. Desktop client software is provided for team members who are charged with managing or working with the media hosted on the Harmony system, allowing many users to connect and work with assets simultaneously.
Media Replication
Although Harmony’s architecture was designed with redundancy in mind to protect media from hardware failure, sometimes organizations have more stringent information security policies that require offsite storage to protect against regional disasters and guarantee up time. The storage component of Harmony comes with an enterprise grade volume replication options to facilitate on demand as well as scheduled replication.
Built-in Media Backup
The storage component of Harmony offers both on-demand and schedulable snapshots which lock down data in its current status and then record changes from that point on. This feature allows for nearly instantaneous back.
